Since opening its distinctive red door in 1995, Gilda’s Club Twin Cities has been a place where people living with cancer can receive the psychological, social and emotional support they need. Named after comedian Gilda Radner of the NBC® program Saturday Night Live®, who died of ovarian cancer in 1989, Gilda’s Club Twin Cities is a local affiliate of the Cancer Support Community. This community consists of a group of 57 “clubhouses” worldwide – all with red doors – filled with experienced mental health professionals and dedicated volunteers serving men, women, teens and children affected by cancer.

The name Gilda’s Club Twin Cities stems from Gilda once saying cancer gave her “membership to an elite club I’d rather not belong to.” Instead of creating a sterile, clinical environment often associated with hospitals, Gilda’s Club Twin Cities was created with the comforts of home in mind. It’s a warm and inviting place where, at no charge, individuals, families and friends can get together and discover how to live with cancer.

There is something for everyone within the walls of this 7,300 square-foot building located near I-394 and Hopkins Crossroad in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Each part of Gilda’s Club Twin Cities has a unique function and offers an array of resources for members. There’s a warm and welcoming living room; comfortable rooms for group support; an information and resource library; expressive art room; mind and body studio for yoga and meditation; and a teaching kitchen to learn about healthy eating when someone has cancer. Kids and teens also have designated areas where they can have fun while getting the help and support they need.

Through various networking groups, workshops, social activities and more, Gilda’s Club Twin Cities members can construct their very own customized community of support in a serene and cozy setting.
