As the summer kicks off, many renew the dream of buying and owning a property on or near a beach. After all, what is more mesmerizing than watching, being in or on the water.
RealtryTrac® analyzed 100 beach towns in the U.S. They examined the average daily temperature, percentage of sunny days, percentage of days with good quality air, and crime rates. They then ranked the list on median value of single family dwellings and condominiums.
So what were the top 10 beach towns?
While I admire the generally affordability of these markets (beach towns are always going to sell at a premium due to restricted supply), the Hawaiian ones in my mind have some access issues – and they make up more than half of the top 10.
I was surprised that more of the towns in Southwest Florida (think Sarasota to Ft Myers with everything in between) and the Ft Walton-Destin area of the Florida panhandle did not make the list, given the still current relative price affordability in those markets.

My favorites? St John, U.S.V.I. tops my list, and it is closer to Houston Texas travel time wise than Hawaii. I also have a property in Galveston—after all, a one hour drive makes that property so much more usable.

In the market for a beach house-condo? Take a look at Realtor.com®. In St John alone, they list 495 homes for sale.
Given today’s interest rates, this may be an opportune time to buy.
